Youth Retreat!

As most of you know, most of the highschoolers in CLC went to a Youth Retreat for several days this week. I was one of them, and I absolutely looovveeeddd it! There were several sessions with the speakers being Dave Brewer, Jon Smith, Josh Harris, Matt Maka, and Bob Kauflin. All of the messages were very convicting and most were revolving around the theme of destroying fear of man and creating a healthy fear of God. The Ministry Night was amazing, and I saw many people who never seemed affected by the Gospel actually cry because they were so touched! The worship time was also beyond anything I had ever seen. So many people who were never passionate about Christ were worshiping with their whole hearts! I was really touched by the different messages and God used it to help me strengthen my walk with the Lord.

The games at the retreat were epicly legendary. They ranged from messy, weird, tiring to plain old crazy. Almost all the games had the words ‘extreme,’ or ‘crazy’ in them, and for good reason! My two favorites were both pretty insane.

In the first one you had to run as fast as you could holding a bottle, slide on a giant tarp covered with soap and water, and try to get to the other side while the other team tried to peg you with dodge balls from either side of the tarp. It was fun both sliding and hitting people.

In another game each team had 6 water balloon launchers. You needed three people to use one since it was like a slingshot: two to hold each side and one to pull it back. Everybody else would spread themselves over their side of the field. The water balloon artillery would fire shots and try to make it hit the ground on the other side. Meanwhile, the people who weren’t launching balloons would run around trying to get hit by the balloons so they wouldn’t hit the ground! You won’t be able to imagine how much fun it is to get smacked by a balloon that just flew half the length of a soccer field at a ridiculously fast speed!

The other game was a giant relay; but it wasn’t even close to what a regular one is! Some of the things you had to do for the relay were:

  1. Smash 6 eggs on your Connect Group Leader’s stomach
  2. Eat 7 marshmallows
  3. Wade in a 3~4 ft deep pool of mud and try to find pennies in it.  (I did this…)
  4. Roll through 100 lbs of flour spread over a tarp.
  5. Get a card with a number on it and try to find the person with the same number card as you. (With 400 people, its not easy… ;-0)
  6. Spell D-O-N-E with your Connect Group by lying on the ground to make letters.

For those who couldn’t make it to the Youth Retreat this year, look forward to the next! I can guarantee that you will love it! I can’t wait ’till the next one!
